Another pageant exhibition!
The Redress of the Past team is involved in another exhibition, this one at Carlisle, opening in August 2015. The exhibition organizers have sent out an appeal for stories...
The Carlisle Historical Pageants Exhibition – Appeal for your stories
From 22nd August to the 18th October 2015 Tullie House will be showing a temporary exhibition which will explore the Carlisle historic pageants of 1928, 1951 and 1977.
Each Pageant will be carefully analysed to examine themes of people, community and civic identity. A diverse range of Pageant costume, film footage, imagery and ephemera will be displayed in the exhibition. Oral testimonies of Carlisle pageant participants can be accessed to hear unique individual experiences. The exhibition is part of a much larger British Universities AHRC research project titled The Redress of the Past: Historical Pageants in Britain, 1905-2016. Several Russell Group Universities including Kings College London, Glasgow University and Edinburgh University are working in partnership with Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery on the project.
The museum would love to hear from local people who were involved in the 1928, 1951 and 1977 Carlisle Pageants, so that their stories can be told in the exhibition. We are also looking for costume, film and photographs from the Carlisle Pageants to use in the display.
